  1. What’s the highest quality MPEG2 [DVD] encoder(s)?

    Looking for the highest quality MPEG2 encoder(s)available for the MAC, needs to be professional quality looking video…money is no object!

    look at some hardware encoders by sonic solutions, i think www.sonic.com.

    i don't know what you're input will be but they have the sd-500, the sd-1000, and the sd-2000. ranging from i think $5000 to 20,000 US.

    most people claim the sd-2000 is the best for the mac from what i've read, if you can afford it. you'll probably get more info if you ask this over at the 2-pop.com dvd board or apple's dsp board. but you might do a search on hardware encoders first. a hardware will be better than a software most of the time. if you're only using dv footage a lot of people love the dmp, digital media press board by wired. check www.filmwareproducts .com for info.

  3. You might look into bitvice as they are planning to do a three pass encoder in the near future. Right now it is only a two pass VBR but it performs very well. It is software based so it is not realtime but I would only suggest realtime if is required.
